Sports Medicine + Orthopedic + Post Surgical Rehabilitation

Our therapists are experts at managing your recovery after hip, knee, shoulder, spine, ankle surgery and more.   We work closely with your surgeons and physicians to provide coordinated care. Orthopedic rehabilitation programs help patients get back to their daily routines and recreational activities.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. Originally developed by athletes, the technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

Dry Needling

Trigger Point Dry Needling is a safe and effective technique that certified physical therapists use to help reduce pain and improve muscle function. So, what exactly is a trigger point? A trigger point is commonly referred to as a “knot” in the muscle and keeps the muscle from functioning properly.

Using the recommended clean needle technique, your physical therapist will insert a filiform needle into the targeted muscle with the goal of getting a “twitch” response. While the twitch may cause a little residual soreness, research has shown that the “twitch” is an essential part of the needling process that helps to reset the muscle, reduce your pain, and improve your overall function. After needling is performed your physical therapist will provide you with individualized exercises to help the muscle return to its proper function.

Modalities

Physical therapists use a variety of modalities to help strengthen, relax, and heal muscles. Here are a few of the treatment modalities available at Choice Physical Therapy

  • Iontophoresis
  • Electrical Stimulation
  • Therapeutic Ultrasound
  • Taping
  • Cupping

Therapeutic Exercise

Physical Therapists by training are “movement specialist”. We have extensive training in orthopaedic medicine, exercise science and musculoskeletal trauma, allowing us to provide the most up-to-date  treatment approaches.  Our therapists will guide you through corrective exercise to improve muscle imbalance, functional movement to address the activities of daily living and movement and, ultimately sport/work specific exercises that help you get back to you..

Biomechanical Evaluation for Orthotics

Our physical therapists are able to make custom orthotics. During the process we will go beyond looking at just your feet.  We will look at your gait and evaluate the biomechanics of your movement in order to address any areas of concern and opportunity as it relates to your feet and beyond.

Massage Therapy

Choice PT is contracted with massage therapists to provide services at our clinic. Massage and touch as a healing art can release pain, tension and stress. It can go deep into the subconscious and release emotional endorphins, and can be a positive experience that promotes relaxation and emotional well-being.  Massage therapy as an adjunct to physical therapy can facilitate the healing process of soft tissue injuries.

Balance/Fall Prevention/Vestibular Rehab

Injury from falls can be a life-changing event for anyone but especially the elderly.  Choice PT offers a range of clinic and community-based fall prevention programs.  We can help improve your overall strength and balance and teach you how to minimize the risk of falling in your environment.

Our therapists are also skilled in managing vestibular disorders which often lead to vertigo, dizziness, and balance disturbances.

Personal Training (ONLY in Richmond)

The type of personal training we offer is focused on corrective exercise and functional movement. We help identify repetitive movement patterns and areas of opportunity as we increase the complexity of your movements. Perhaps you are just getting back into strength training or you have been in physical therapy and are ready to work out on your own but not sure where to start, the training we offer is perfect for those scenarios. This is not about heavy weight liftings and 6-pack abs. This is about working out safely with the trained eye of a physical therapist without aggravating old injuries.
