Dear Friends,

We hope you are enjoying our monthly email newsletters which feature interesting articles on how to prevent injury, and information about things many of us experience every day ... Arthritis, Balance Issues, Lower Back Pain, Knee or Shoulder injuries, etc.  We hope you find our content useful and know you should feel free to contact us with any questions or for more information at any time!  We are here for you as a provider and resource!

It’s been a year since our WHAT'S NEW AT CHOICE PHYSICAL THERAPY newsletter with our programs and our staff, so we thought it was the perfect time to share what's going on with us!

1.  REMINDER:  YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE!

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with many of you during the Clinical Outcome Survey that we conduct on a quarterly basis. We randomly select some of our past patients to inquire about their continued well-being and to determine if our treatment had been effective and beneficial over an extended period of time.  For those who participated, thank you!  We heard from many patients that they would have chosen Choice Physical Therapy when they required care for other issues; however their doctor sent them elsewhere.  “I wish I had known that I could have come back to Choice PT!” was said over and over again.

Most patients are not aware that it is absolutely your choice where you go for physical therapy services.  It should be a conversation between you and your physician discussing the best choice for your physical therapy needs.  (Often the choice depends on the services that the PT practice provides to meet those needs and the location to your home or work to make appointments easier for you to attend.  It may also include having a past relationship with a particular therapist who knows your past medical history and conditions, rather than having to “start all over again” with another clinician.)  Luckily, most physicians in this area will refer their patients to the practice of the patient’s choice.  However, if they are unaware that you have a preference, the physician may make the decision for you with other reasons in mind.

So why come to Choice Physical Therapy?  What sets us apart?

  • One-on-One, Manual Therapy:  Individualized treatment provided by Licensed Physical Therapists who have years of experience and advanced credentials, committed to lifelong learning and acquiring new skills.
  • Superior Continuity of Care:  Your treatment is provided by the same physical therapist from initial evaluation to discharge.
  • Direct Access:  Physical Therapy can serve as an ideal point of entry for the rapid assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries without the need for a physician’s referral.  After an initial evaluation, we can refer you to a physician specialist should other services be required.
  • Next Day Appointments:  In most cases we are able to provide care within 24 hours.
  • Extended Hours: We are open early mornings and in the evenings for your convenience.
  • We are an independently owned, private practice and have been servicing the community for over 21 years.

If you need physical therapy, please call us at 802.878.6656 and we can get you started right away!  We are here for all of your rehabilitation needs and have three convenient locations in Barre, Berlin & Williston!

2.  FREE FALL RISK ASSESSMENTS

Choice Physical Therapy offers FREE Fall Risk Assessments at each of our practices.  We have certifications in Vestibular Rehabilitation and Fall Prevention, and offer a comprehensive program that includes FREE Fall Risk Screenings and Community Lectures. We will work with you to help you get better if you've experienced dizziness, imbalance or a fall! Please contact us if you would like to have FREE Fall Risk Screening, and keep an eye out for dates on our next FREE FALL PREVENTION PRESENTATION!

3.  MONTPELIER LOCATION CLOSURE

As many of you may know, First in Fitness in Montpelier has sold their building at 1 Blanchard Court, so unfortunately after many years in Montpelier we had to temporarily say goodbye as we look for another location.  We have consolidated this practice with our facility at First in Fitness in Berlin located at 652 Granger Road.  MaryEllen Boutin, PT, who has provided physical therapy services in our Montpelier practice for the past 15 years, has moved to our Berlin facility and is available for appointments by calling 802.422.2300!

4.  STAFF OUTINGS AND ACTIVITIES

  • Our staff really enjoys spending time together during our Team Building Events.  This past year we participated in paddleboard yoga at the Waterbury Reservoir!  Wow, what a challenge!   Everyone managed to stay on the board except for 2 of us who shall remain nameless! It was one of those spectacular August evenings in Vermont and we look forward to getting back out there this summer.
  • We took a cooking lesson at The Store in Waitsfield. The theme was “COOKING WITH MAPLE” and none of us needed to eat again for two days after! It was great learning new recipes and skills and we all had a lot of fun in the process.  MAUREEN FRASER, PT and her family had a wonderful sugaring season and will be able to put all these recipes to good use!
  • Our team ran/walked in the Corporate Cup in May. That always brings out our competitive nature.  We will be out there again this Spring with our running shoes on!
  • Choice Physical Therapy sponsored the "Williston Runs for Education" 5K Relay and Kids Fun Run last May, and will be on hand to provide PT and other techniques to the Runners and Walkers again on May 20, 2017!  This is an annual fund raiser for the Williston Schools extra-curricular programs.  We are happy to be a part of this family friendly Fun Run.
  • We held our 2nd Annual 5k in September in Montpelier to benefit the Washington County Youth Services Bureau / Boys and Girls Club.  A very successful event and the Choice Physical Therapy staff were on hand to provide hands on help to the runners and walkers pre- and post-race.
  • Our staff continues to advance their clinical expertise.  Debbie Underhill, PTA has recently attended a course on the biomechanics of running, while Casey Boucher, DPT and Maureen Fraser, PT attended a conference learning more on mid and upper back injuries in older adults.

5.  OTHER NEWS:

LAUREN COOK, PT:  My son achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in December. It was a long road of perseverance and hard work to get there, but we couldn’t be prouder. He is now a senior in high school and we have been on the road looking at colleges and assisting with his application process. His list of 15 is slowly witling down! My daughter is still in NYC. I try to visit there and my Dad on the Cape whenever I can. Still working on the 21 day fix as well.

AMANDA DAYTON:  I have been spending my winter volunteering for and watching our son, Carter’s hockey team while our daughter, Mackenzie (3 years old) is anxious to get on skates, as well.  It is always such a joy watching your children grow and learn. My husband and I have recently found time to travel to concerts, sporting events and fun nights out with our friends.

LEE MORSE, PT spent time this season coaching the largest Alpine Ski Team in the State of Vermont among Boys and Girls combined High School Teams. They held their own Alpine Ski Racing Carnival on January 10th, 2017, Boys and Girls Giant Slalom, at Sugarbush Resort, Waitsfield, Vermont. The Boys Team won the race, and the Girls Team placed 3rd Overall. There were 160 competitors from 10 High Schools that competed today, with a crowd of close to 300 with parents, coaches, volunteers and race department staff, as well as the general public.
