Active Release Techniques® (ART)

Choice Physical Therapists are trained in Active Release Techniques®, or ART.  ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

Graston Technique ®

Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. Originally developed by athletes, the technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. For the patient, utlizing this technique:

  • Decreases overall time of treatment
  • Fosters faster rehabilitation/recovery
  • Reduces need for anti-inflammatory medication
  • Resolves chronic conditions thought to be permanent

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique physical therapists use to treat myofascial pain. The technique uses a “dry” needle, one without medication or injection, inserted through the skin into areas of the muscle, known as trigger points. Physical therapists use dry needling with the goal of releasing or inactivating trigger points to relieve pain or improve range of motion. Preliminary research supports that dry needling improves pain control, reduces muscle tension, and normalizes dysfunctions of the motor end plates, the sites at which nerve impulses are transmitted to muscles. This can help speed up the patient's return to active rehabilitation. Click here for more information on Dry Needling.

Overview:  Physical therapists use a variety of modalities to help treat their patients. There are a variety of treatment modalities that can help strengthen, relax, and heal muscles. Below are a few of the treatment modalities physical therapists used daily in their practice.

  • Iontophoresis
  • Electrical Stimulation
  • Exercise Prescription
  • Ultrasound

Aquatic Therapy

Choice Physical Therapy offers patients individualized pool sessions, providing guidance and instruction throughout your session.  Proper posture and form are emphasized to maximize the benefits of the aquatic environment.  The buoyancy of the water reduces loading across joints to allow exercise that would otherwise be too difficult on land.  The warmth and pressure of the water may further assist with pain relief, decrease swelling and increase ease of movement.  Aquatic Therapy is performed at the Marriott (Williston) and First in Fitness (Berlin).  Please contact us for an appointment.

Massage Therapy

Massage and touch as a healing art can release pain, tension and stress. It can go deep into the subconscious and release emotional endorphins, and can be a positive experience that promotes relaxation and emotional well-being.  At Choice Physical Therapy our treatments are based on scientific research.  Massage therapy as an adjunct to physical therapy can facilitate the healing process of soft tissue injuries.  In addition, many pain patients require periodic ongoing massage therapy to maintain their health and function.  Utilizing medically based massage therapy under the direction of our physical therapists, we can offer a low cost alternative to repeated physical therapy management once discharged from acute rehabilitation.

Those patients needing orthotics benefit from expert fitting and state-of-the-art products.
